Rockin' the Holidays!

Last night, I played a Holiday show with a group...it was a BLAST! The venue was nicer, the sound engineer was extremely polite and flexible and the songs were amazing. The array of songs we played was quite wide, ranging from covers of Mastodon and Led Zeppelin to The Kinks and KT Tunstall. Although we did play some non Christmas or non Holiday rock songs, Dazed and Confused and Under Pressure, we played a handful of songs that were rock interpretations, old Jazz...jolly time tunes, Jingle Bell Rock and Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree. We performed God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman by Bad Religion, the irony in Bad Religion making a Christmas record is amazing. It is an up tempo punk masterwork that clocks in at around a minute thirty seconds. Dio also performed a version of the same song that is 3 minutes longer and roughly 115 bpm slower than the Bad Religion take. Both are great, but one thing that stands out to me is that each song reflects each artist's style, uncannily...(Duh). Guess that's kind of the point...I just found that immensely intriguing and with some more digging, I found an August Burns Red, Fit for a King and Manheim Steamroller version of the same song. Also, Twisted Sister did a version of Oh Come All Ye Faithful or as we call it, We're Not Gonna Take It with Festive lyrics, but that's another thing entirely.
