Why not?

Why does it seem so normal to have effects on guitars and other melodic instruments, yet the thought of adding anything but reverb or an occasional delay to drums is so alien to most? I understand wanting the drums to be concise and pure, but it's 2018 and the only effects on drums most people have heard are reverb and a very rare delay. With the advent of new technology and genres, who's to say we shouldn't put a tremolo or fuzz on a drum bus?
Lets take a look at Josh Dion: He sings, plays a synth with his right hand, and plays the kit with his other three limbs. That is insanely innovative. Players like Matt Garstka and Benny Greb are innovating in skill and technique, but with the myriad of new tech out now, there's no saying how much effects could augment a drummer's creativity. That's just my 2 cents, but I'm intrigued now ... I wonder what a harmonizer would sound like on a kit mix?
